Andrew Porter Limited offers a selection of specialist services for which it has built up an enviable reputation throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. These include specialist laboratory relocation, furniture logistics and library relocation and it has customers in these areas which include some of the best known and largest firms in their respective industries.
The firm is continually working to improve its customer service offering, creating the best value and quality for its customers. As a forward-thinking firm, it has made significant investments in aspects such as safety, environmental sustainability and innovation.
The people behind the business
Tim Aspey is the managing director of the firm which was originally set up by its current chairman Andrew Porter, whose father had established the Fariport group of companies in Adlington. Andrew Porter Ltd began life on the same site, before relocating to a bespoke premises half a mile away in 1999.
Tim said: “We are very proud of our Lancashire heritage and are lucky to have an experienced and loyal workforce, many of whom live locally. The county certainly has a thriving business community and it is great to be a part of that.”Why we chose Chorley
Andrew Porter Limited chose to build its new premises in Chorley so that its workforce could easily stay with the firm and it took advantage of the opportunity to purchase land to create the perfect business accommodation to suit its needs.
Tim said: "It is also great for us to remain close to the Fairport group, that includes Fairport Containers, for which we provide logistics services, and Fairport Garages, which services our fleet of 60 vehicles.
"As a logistics firm operating throughout the UK, as well as across Europe and worldwide, location is clearly of paramount importance to us. Our headquarters is situated just a few minutes from the M61, making it quick and easy for us to access the M6 and M62, and from there the rest of the motorway network. This ease of access, combined with the size and variety of our vehicle fleet, means we are at no disadvantage to companies which have depots throughout the country and, in fact, can offer a more reliable and cost-effective surface.
"Chorley is a fantastic area to set up a business, with a wide range of benefits. Property is cost-effective compared with neighbouring locations and there is a wealth of high quality business accommodation available. If you are thinking of setting up a business in the North West then Chorley could be the ideal place to start looking.”
Chorley Council has been a great source of help and support to the business over the years. The council helped find the land to build the new premises in 1999 as well as negotiating the purchase price. And at the same time they helped the firm access European grant funding which contributed 26% of the build cost.
In the early 2000s, a second grant was received through the council with the aim of creating jobs in Chorley. This enabled the firm to refurbish and expand its vehicle maintenance workshop.
Tim said: "We are very grateful for the support we have received and would recommend that other businesses looking to grow contact the council to find out what help is available.”What do you like most about Chorley?
The friendly, down-to-earth nature of the people, combined with the excellent location of the town.
